    Think Outside the Box

Same products, same pitch, same this and that… Every week, I spend a few hours searching online to see what’s being offered, whether it be classes, coaching, or products. I search Amazon, Etsy, to name a few. I also receive about ten e-mails a day from people selling things like classes and software. Guess what? I’d say 99% of both my own searches and the ones that fall into my e-mail, are selling the same type of thing or service. They even have the same sales pitch encouraging me to buy the product. I don’t have to tell you that these are tough times we’re living through. What was an…

Five Reasons To Write a Non-Fiction Book

Have you been thinking about writing a book? Publishing used to be for the select few but with self publishing platforms like Amazon, Nook, Kobo, and let’s no forget Smashwords, there’s never been a better or easier time to pen a non-fiction book. If I haven’t convinced you, then here are my top five reasons why you should get started today- Shows You As An Expert People listen to and buy from people who they consider experts. I’m not just talking about people with advanced degrees in topics, but anyone who has knowledge and the expertise they feel can help them solve a problem. It could be their home or…

    Finding the Right Coach

Coaches…these days, it seems like everyone has either a coach or is a coach. Some people even fit into both categories. When I started writing, I always thought wouldn’t it be great to have someone show me how it’s done. I never found that person and it was one of the reasons I decided to coach aspiring writers. Just about every profession has a coach, writing, art, business, and yes, the life coach. They’re popping up everywhere and you might even be thinking about hiring one. Here are some of my tips for finding the perfect match for your needs- What’s Their Background? I’m seeing more people hang out their…

    Content Might Be King but…

They say that content is king but I also think knowing when to reach out for help is also equally regal. Launching a business, stepping into the unknown is scary but you don’t have to do it alone. Here are some ways you can access help and be on your way to success- Mentors My mentor was my former boss who sadly passed away about 12 years ago. She took a chance on me, the girl who had no experience working in public relations. My degree wasn’t even in an area that even closely resembled the field of communications. She trusted I could do the job and slowly became my…

Making Money by Sharing Your Skills

Teaching, coaching, tutoring, so many names for the ways you share your skill with others. One thing they all have in common is it’s a great way to make some extra money or even turn it into your full time business. I turned to tutoring during the Great Recession when more freelance assignments were far and few between, and more work was getting outsourced. I enjoyed it so much that I actually started to drop some of my freelance writing gigs and switched more to teaching others how to write. I began teaching classes through some of the chapters of the Romance Writers of America. About four years ago, I…

    Second Tuesday-Teaching and Coaching

It’s the second Tuesday of the month which means you’re going to find a post on another way to make money and this time it’s teaching, coaching, and tutoring. I’ve been tutoring for an online writing school for 12 years, teaching online classes for a decade, and also offer writing classes on a major platform. When the freelance writing market took somewhat of a nosedive during the recession of 2008 and beyond, it was a great way for me to make extra money. We all have skills to share with others which translates into offering those skills for sale. It’s also a great way to make some passive income (more…
