Borrow Before You Buy
Have you ever tackled a project around your home like sanding a floor or deck and rushed out to buy a sander?
Not only is this something that you probably won’t use more than once a year…if that, but it takes up room in your home, plus it’s an added expensive you don’t need.
Lots of places will rent these types of items to you and here’s a list of other things that maybe it’s better to borrow than buy…
Books
I’m an avid reader and while I do like to keep non-fiction books for future reference and they’re most likely the books I read over and over again, when it comes to fiction, I’m a read once and I’m done sort of person.
Many of you know my favorite go to place is the library.
Even if your local one doesn’t have the book you’re looking for, chances are they can order it for you.
DVDs and movies
Your library is another great resource for DVDs and movies. There’s also Redbox too so unless it’s a movie you’re going to watch more than a few times, opt to rent or borrow.
Tools
Most tools take up a lot of space and cost a decent amount of money, so borrowing the tool from a friend may be the way to go. Another option includes renting from local tool shops.
Suitcases
If you travel frequently, you may want to invest in a suitcase. However, most people only travel once a year at most. In these instances, instead of going out and spending hundreds on a bag, check with your friends and relatives to see if they have one they’d be willing to let you borrow.
Sporting equipment
If you’re just testing out the waters to see if you like a sport or it’s something you know you’re just going to play for a season, ask friends and relatives if they have like maybe, a tennis racket or a kayak you can borrow.
For any item think about whether or not you’ll use that item again and if it’s a wise investment.
Is there anything else on this list you’d like to add? Is there something you always borrow and never buy? I’d love to hear your input.
