Business Talk,  FIRE Financial Independence, Retire Early

Let’s Start Talking About FIRE

Fire, no, not the type you use to keep warm or start to cook food, but FIRE otherwise know as Financial Independence, Retire Early.

One or both of those things might sound good to you. I’m probably not going to go with the Retire Early part, but I’ve always loved the idea of financial independence. Yes, even before it became a catchphrase.

The having enough money as not to be dependent on something else be it a person or otherwise for your everyday needs and long term survival. Never having to worry about losing your job because you’ve got enough saved to tide you over until another one comes along. The never again waking up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, worrying about how you’re going to pay off all that credit card debt.

Sound like something you’ve only dreamed about up till now?

I didn’t know it at the time, but 20 years ago when I decided to work for myself, I was taking my first step toward the FI part of FIRE. Starting a business, setting up an emergency fund, setting a budget and sticking with it, are some of the ways you can achieve financial independence.

You might love your job, you may already know that early retirement isn’t for you and that’s fine, but I do think the FI part is something every person should strive for. It’s one of the reasons I decided to take BSG in a new direction, offering tips, articles and products that can help set you up for success so money worries become a thing of the past.

We’ll be talking more about FIRE in the coming weeks and months.

Let me know if there’s anything about this topic you’d like to see here at BSG. And if you’re already on the road to FIRE and want to share some tips E-mail me at budgetsmartqueries@gmail.com, I’d love to feature you here.
