Friday Ramblings-All Work and No Play

I t’s a holiday weekend which means it’s time to take a rest. When you work for yourself it’s all too easy to watch others go play while you’re stuck in front of a computer screen. Even waving to everyone splashing around in the water while you balance a laptop on your knees. I’m a self confessed workalcoholic and sometimes that leads to burnout when you actually become less productive. So, let’s use this holiday weekend, to relax. Learn to take a step back from work and promise yourself you’ll do it at least once a month. I promise you you’ll feel better and more focused when you get back…

    Finding the Right Coach

Coaches…these days, it seems like everyone has either a coach or is a coach. Some people even fit into both categories. When I started writing, I always thought wouldn’t it be great to have someone show me how it’s done. I never found that person and it was one of the reasons I decided to coach aspiring writers. Just about every profession has a coach, writing, art, business, and yes, the life coach. They’re popping up everywhere and you might even be thinking about hiring one. Here are some of my tips for finding the perfect match for your needs- What’s Their Background? I’m seeing more people hang out their…

    Friday Ramblings-New Month, New Goals

Did you meet all your goals for April? These are disruptive, strange times for most of us, and setting goals and meeting them is often the last thing you think about. Or maybe it’s the first thing. I’ve been getting e-mails from lots of people who want to start their own business now that their jobs are no more. People who want more of solid financial base to build upon for times just like these. I also got e-mails from people who have been reading BSG since day one when I offered money saving tips. If you’re new here, check out the archives and you’ll find lots of articles about…

Friday Ramblings-One For the History Books

Hope you are all safe and well on this last Friday of March. It’s been quite a month, hasn’t it? I think it will definitely be one for the history books. So, craziness in our world aside, what did you achieve this March? I’ve been reading about people in my local area who have had to close their stores, calls from potential clients aren’t coming in like they’d hope, and lots of people wonder if they have enough savings to last until things go back to normal. These are all reminders that everyone needs a rainy day fund and something to fall back onto because we never know when something…

    Opening an Online Store

Thinking about opening an online store? The great thing about the Internet is it not only makes buying more convenient, it makes selling items a breeze. Years ago, if you wanted to open a store you had to find a brick and mortar building to lease or buy, and then remodel, stock it…yeah, a pain in the you know what. Now with the click of a mouse, you can open your store for not only local people to visit, but the world too. I’m making it all sound, easy, wonderful, yes, rose colored glasses sort of thing, but this ease actually becomes it’s downside. Yes, everyone in the world can…

    Monday Motivation-Build Your Dream

They say when you work for someone else you’re helping them live their dream and not your own. This week, think about what type of business you can launch. Could it be one that starts out as a side gig or something you do for a few hours every night when you come home from the job you’ll leave when you become your own boss? This week, let’s dream BIG.

Budget Smart Girl Interview with Shante Hassel

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s interview time. This week’s guest is Shante Hassel. I’d love for us to show support of each other here at BSG and encourage each other in our business ventures. So, with that in mind, please check out Shante’s site, and if any of Shante’s books or planners are of interest to you, I encourage you to buy from her. Tell us about yourself and your business. I am a writer and a publisher of notebooks, workbooks and journals. www.shantehassel.com I just launched a journal prompt club where members can get free monthly journal prompts. Since I was young girl I loved to write, read and…

    Friday Ramblings-Be Your Own Subscriber

Another workweek slowly draws to a close. Did you achieve everything on this week’s to do list? I switched gears somewhat and began formatting the next two books I get rights back to. I also made covers for them. I’m trying out a new method of what some people call batch working. Instead of doing one task for many projects, you get everything done on just one and in one shot. I’ll let you if I think you should give it a try or not. One thing I’ve been doing to save time (and to make sure I don’t forget to make a post). is to use the scheduling feature…
