Did you know that the About Me page on sites and blogs is one of the most viewed?
I said I’d be honest about my own struggles with keeping this site up to date. I’d hoped by the time I’d written this post I would have revamped my own about me page. What can I say, it’s the first week of the month which is usually the busiest for me and it didn’t get done.
No excuses, I know. In the meantime, here are some things that I’ll be focusing on when I do get around to redoing that page and I hope these tips will help you.
Set the Tone
Your about me or about the site page sets the tone for the whole site. What’s the impression you want to give people who stop by? It is going to be quirky, humorous maybe, or have a more business like tone?
Besides keeping with the general tone of the site, your about me page is an important part of its overall branding. Keep with the same fonts, colors and graphics.
Sometimes we recognize a company not so much by its name but by its logo. If you haven’t already picked or made one for your site, think about something that truly represents what it’s going to be focused on. Mine includes the tagline, living the life you love to remind people that’s its focus.
While you don’t want to try and sell visitors a product or service on the about me page, you do want to use some sort of sales pitch to get them to check out the rest of your site and/or store.
Your about me page should offer some insight into who you are and what you do. Come across as someone real, someone they feel they can trust for information, good service, great products so they’ll come back again and again.
Remember that this is the most read page on a site so take advantage of it, remind them to sign up to your newsletter or so they don’t miss one of your posts.
Even if they don’t read another page on your site, make your about me page stand out from the crowd.
Talk again soon, and remember to live the life you love.
