September Savings with Georgine

Georgine’s money saving tips for September

Getting ready for back to school, the end of beach and pool days, and the beginning of the cooler weather all mean September. There are lots of good sales going on too.

If you are in the market for a new car, after Labor Day dealers are making room for the new 2014 models so you can score a good price on a 2013. The best time to buy is during the last weekend of the month when salesmen are trying to make their quota.

At gardens and nurseries you find greenery at the best price of the year. Try to look for perennials that will bloom in your garden year after year. Rosebushes in all their glorious colors are a great choice.

If you’d like to get in some exercise before it’s too cold, bikes will be cheaper as these are in less demand now.

Anything leftover that means summer, such as grills and lawnmowers, will also be discounted. It’s a great time to find things you can save for next year.

September is National Coupon Month. At the grocery store, combine your coupons and look for sales on cereal, breakfast bars, peanut butter and jelly, lunch meat, American cheese, yogurt, chips, snack cakes, cookies, hot dogs, ground beef, condiments, hamburger and hot dog buns, salad dressing, canned goods, soup, soda, frozen pies, and drink boxes. The week after Labor Day will bring lots of coupons in your Sunday newspaper as well as great sales in the supermarket. Collect as many coupons for products that are on sale and buy as many as your store permits so you can stock up. Of course, non-perishables will be your best bet.

Now that summer is over, it’s a good time to sign up for newsletters, free online memberships, and email alerts from your favorite brands. More often than not you will be rewarded with coupons on a regular basis. If you want to keep your email account personal rather than have a lot of mail, set up a free account, such as Hotmail, for all your coupon-related correspondence. Many stores allow you to show your emailed coupons from your smart phone thus eliminating the cutting and carrying of coupons with you. This can be especially helpful if you forgot one at home and it is saved in your email. Technology is advancing and making our lives a little easier!
