    Friday Round Up-Organizing and Decluttering

Happy Friday to you. The weather took a downward turn and it looks like winter is back. I guess last week’s 60 degree temperature spoiled me and I have to face up to reality. Roll on spring and summer.   Speaking of which… Getting Ready for Canning Season I’ve been on a decluttering and organizing binge. One of the areas in the basement that was in most disarray was the section where I keep all my canning jars and equipment. After searching online for some ideas, I stumbled upon an item called a Jar Box that’s not only a way to organize your canning jars, but keeps dust, dirt…and…

Friday Round Up-Save Money On Soap (that’s ugly)

Good Friday to you and it’s the last one in February. The weather’s taken a winter like turn but I know spring is around the corner. The Ragu Giveaway I don’t know if there was a glitch in the system last week or what, but no one entered the Ragu sauce giveaway so I’m running the contest again. The first person to e-mail me, gets the Ragu sauces. Ugly Soap I’m a huge fan of artisan soaps and if you’ve tried buying them you’ll know they’re pricey. However, as every Budget Smart Girl knows there’s always a way around the price. While I was doing some research…

    Friday Round Up-Starting Seeds

I can’t believe it’s already Friday. I planned on posting some tips and links if you’re planning to start growing your vegetable or flower seeds now that winter (she says crossing her fingers) is behind us. I got behind with work so I thought I’d make it the Friday Round Up instead. I keep a few growing containers on hand each year but I always seem to run out so this year I’ll be using a few items that can be found around the house. First one is actually found in t fridge and it’s empty cardboard egg cartons. I’ve never tried growing seeds in them before but I’m going…

    Perfect Marinades

The folks at Holland House sent me some samples of their products and some recipes to try. Here’s the first one along with some tips about marinades. During August Meatless Monday will feature guest recipes, beginning this Monday with Tofu and Vegetable Stir Fry. On August 11th, it will be Vegetable Pastry Purses, on the 18th, Tex-Mex Burgers, and on the 25th, Tofu Nuggets. I can’t wait to test drive all four of these and if you want to make the following recipe veggie just leave out the bacon and add something like cubed zucchini to the skewers. Happy saving and have a fun weekend.   For more information and recipes check out-http://hollandhouseflavors.com/  …

    Friday Round-Up-BBQ Potatoes

June already and I haven’t even got my vegetable plants in the ground, but I hope to this weekend. Also, on my list of to do’s. Make the first batch of strawberry jam. I have five containers of strawberries that were on sale so now it’s just finding time. And Meyer lemons were on sale. My first thought was homemade ginger lemonade but now I think I might make some lemon curd. The Case of Look Before You Buy I make things like pizza crust, pita bread, bread, pastry crusts…you name it, from scratch and it means I go through lots of flour each week. I thought I’d buy it…

    Friday Round-Up-Substitute Pie Crust

Just a quick Friday round-up. First up, congrats to Cheryl who won the China Study All Star Collection cookbook. Lots of strawberries are already in the produce department. I can’t wait to see how my own strawberry plants (and the blueberry plants) do this year. Last year was the first time I planted them so I don’t know if I’ll have enough to make any jam or pies. I’ll probably use them just for snacking. Speaking of snacking ,one of my favorites is homemade hummus on cucumber slices. It’s filling and keeps the hunger pains away until mealtime. Plus, with cucumbers soon to be in abundance and chickpeas always on…

Friday Round-Up-A Week of Good Buys

I didn’t get time to post a round up last Friday because it’s been a hectic two weeks with various projects. However, it’s been a good time for a bargain or two. One of the consignment stores in the neighborhood had a huge sale offering 75% off already marked down merchandise. I couldn’t resist going along to take a look because I was in need of some summer pants and t-shirts. I ended up with buying four pairs of pants and three t-shirts, most of them designer brands, and one pair of pants still had the original label on them. The cashier said okay are you ready for your total…
